I can remember when I was a child and started learning to play bass guitar, I was blown away by the musical talents of a R&B band called Earth, Wind & Fire. The sultry voice of Phillip Bailey and the strong harmonies he and the leader Maurice White performed were unbelievable as well as uplifting.
Maurice was a giant in the industry and a roll model for many inner city people of color as well as our suburban brothers and sisters. The music he produced was appreciated and loved my people of all races. EWF under the leadership of Maurice White was a force to be reckoned with. Songs like "Devotion, Keep Your Head to the Sky, Mighty Mighty, Reasons, Imaginations, Shinning Star, That's the Way of the World, Sing a Song, Getaway, Fantasy, Saturday Nite, I'll Write a Song for You, Serpentine Fire, Be Ever Wonderful, September, Let's Groove, System of Survival and After the Love Has Gone," Just to name a few, were indicative of the mind of a musical genius.
One of the greatest bands ever created, and a leader who had vision and purpose to created a dynasty that even to this day still produces music for those of us who cherish real R&B. Maurice White was indeed a musical legend. He will be missed, as we are thankful for his selfless contribution to the world of music and I honor and respect him for all that he represents to all musicians world wide.
Rest in Peace my partner in song. You will now join the voices of the famous night minstrels that have gone on before you, such as Marvin Gaye, Luther Vandross, Michael Jackson and Barry White just to name a few...on the night shift.
