The Wind Against My Back

The Wind Against My Back

(Written by: Ernest Johnson)

Thank you for being there when I truly needed you most,
You’re just what the doctor prescribed; I’d take a second dose.
Sometimes we need a partner someone to watch our back,
Someone who can share your pain and keep your life on track.

So let the winds blow hard so that the storms can fill the skies,
Misty clouds of what could have been cast reflections in our eyes.
Let the rain fall upon my head listening to the raindrop symphony,
I felt the wind against my back,
As I struggled to be free.

Thank you for loving me and never letting me down,
You stood beside me and held my hand, my hero pound for pound.
I didn’t need special attention I dared to walk alone,
All I wanted was one honest heart, the kind not made of stone.

So let the winds blow hard so that the storms can fill the skies,
Misty clouds of what could have been cast reflections in our eyes.
Let the rain fall upon my head listening to the raindrop symphony,
I felt the wind against my back,
As I struggled to be free.

I felt your hand upon my back,
The one who rescued me.
